Day 6 & 7 OTS

Spent days 6/7 at Sipapu Ski Area giving Skibike demos.

They had received snow earlier that week of 18" (thank heavens, no snow through Jan) and the snow was in good shape to play. We were able to get 41 people through demos on Sat/Sun without an incident. Had lots of fun giving lessons and ripping runs on the 3ski.

Shared the snow with another good friend Patrick from Stalmach. Very much enjoyed his company and sharing snow and runs with him. He had a hoot on the 3ski. He needs to get a regular jobby- job so we can all celebrate on the mountain.

I love spending time at Sipapu. Its 2 very hard days of work but to see the laughing and smiling on those bikes is life changing to me!!

Day 4 & 5 OTS

Spent days 4/5 at DMR (Durango Mountain Resort) in Colorado. My buddy Krusty and I hit a nice powder day at DMR on Monday and Tuesday on the Skibikes.

We managed to sneak in Sunday night before it laid down about 6" over night. Fluffy dust on crust but what a day it was. Ripped lots of runs and made lots of stops in the trees. Turned Krusty on to the magic of Crown Royal on those cold ride days. He's a believer.

Stayed Tuesday to get a little more but alas, most of it had been groomed out and very cold that day. Met up with Cliff from Pedal the Peaks in Colorado. Managed to get back into Albuquerque before the weather let loose on the roads too bad. Nice 2 days!!

Day 2 and 3 OTS
My day 2 & 3 on the snow, was a good one.

We had our first demo days at the super neat little ski hill called Sipapu Ski area. (http://www.sipapunm.com/ )

We had 2 full day demos scheduled on Sat and Sun. We brought our normal collection of bikes for demos to include the newest bike called the 3ski (http://www.3ski.com/) from New Zealand. Melanie and I were shocked at how much extra work it is with just 1 person down. It took us almost an additional 40+ minutes longer to get set up w/o Krusty's help. Don't want to bust on him as he showed up at about 11am, with no sleep from his night shift job and jumped right in doing lessons. We had the sun on our face both days and it was warm enough that I rode bikes and gave demos in my lightest ski pants and a polar fleece top. It even warmed up enough for 3+ hours each day that the snow got real nice under the boards. We had a great turn out of 28 people that signed up for formal lessons and demos over the 2 days. This year we decided to enter demo participants for a free skibike give away each demo weekend. A local man from Albuquerque, NM that came up for the day just to check out skibikes, won the give away bike as was more thrilled than a kid in a candy shop!! I played on a lot of runs on the newest toy in our box called the 3ski. What an amazing machine that is a thrill to ride!! I found it much more friendly in the sketch and was just meant to go..very very fast!!! I gave 4 lessons on it and all 4 folks nailed ridding the bike in just 1 run. 1 participant hot lapped the hill for all 2 days when it was available. I'm looking forward to getting some more time on it this season.

We spent the night at Sipapu on Sat night. We got a 2 room condo there for like $95. What a smoken deal. My buddy Eugene (aka..Krusty) said it best to describe the place. "This place has a fine patina on it!". Very true. The place is old but the price is right and value can not be beat!! If you get a chance to find and ride Sipapu..tell them SkibikeFun sent you!!!

Day 2 and 3 are down....looking and planning for day #4!!!

Keep it shiny side up and slippery side down!!

2010/2011 Season- First day on the snow!!

Well, I felt like a kid in a candy shop on 2 for 1 day!! Headed to DMR to get on the snow on my skibike for the first time this season. I had additional plans to meet up with the great folks from 3Ski, Jason Buckley and Chris Darby. (www.3ski.com) I was picking up some bikes from them for the season to retail and demo with.

Funny how being off the snow for 37 weeks can make you feel like you have butterflies in your gut on that first ride up!! I was stoked! DMR had received fresh snow the night before and continued through the weekend. DMR only had most of the front side and some of the stuff back around chair 3 open but more than enough to get my giggle factor working again. The snow under my boards was amazing!! I always forget just how great it feels to be back on the hill every season. I had wrecked my back over Thanksgiving weekend so I was taking it super easy that day and found everything I turned around, the fun meter was pegging! I think I managed about 5 or 6 runs total for the day. Spent a good chunk of time drinking in the bar and chatting with folks. It was mostly about getting back into the groove of the connection between man, bike and snow. What a day it was!! We met up with the Kiwis from 3Ski later in the day. These guys are great and have an incredible product that is like nothing on the SkiBike market today!!! Jason reminded me that during an email conversation years ago, I told him, "You might just have the next greatest skibike on the market". After many seasons of fine tuning and continued development of his product and having crazies like Chris Darby launching their product through the air and ripping runs with him, they have what I think is the next greatest SkiBike in the world!! Its truly and innovative and down right fun piece of equipment!! Its funny to watch Jason and Chris together. It reminded me a lot of Krusty and I on the hill. Each, pushing and goading each other to do things we shouldn't be doing on the hill!!

We took Jason and Chris out for a nice meal in Durango on Saturday night and was glad to see them get a hotel room for a few nights as the two of them had been living in that frozen RV for weeks!! We closed Sunday with some improvised 3ski lesson training in the hotel room and some 3ski assembly tips and techniques in the RV and we parted ways. Them headed back to DMR to ride and do demos with the adaptive school and us back to New Mexico.

Day 1, down...hoping for 30+ more this season. I'll call it a success. If you all remember, last season, 1st day out, I cracked 2 ribs half day and way out of the game for a few weeks!! This was a huge win for my first day out this season.

Keep it shiny side up and don't eat the yellow snow!!

Winter is on the way again!!!

Well, its been a while I suppose!! Summer went by w/o a hitch. Did not get DH MTB in much this summer as an early season bear scare stopped that. Did get some road trips in, a flaot trip on the Salt river and a few camping trips. My kinda summer!!! It is starting to cool down and its balloon fiesta here in New Mexico. Winter is around the corner soon!!!

What's new for the upcoming season? Well.......we have the new 3 skis from New Zealand coming to the US this season. Great bikes that truly blend biking and skiing together! We should have them available by mid November 2010. We will post info once we have them. The Sledgehammer continues to get better. The Sledgehammer #3 debuts this season and its beefed up and improved just for the US market. More travel, beefier frameset and a redesign give the bike a familiar look with greatly improved ride characteristics. Lastly, we have decided to keep our demo events exclusive to Sipapu Ski area here in New Mexico. We have also added Sundays to our demo weekend to allow other people to get an opportunity to try skibiking. SkiBike demo weekends are:

Jan 8/9, Feb 5/6 and March 5/6 2011.

http://www.3ski.com/

http://www.sledgehammer.at/

http://www.sipapunm.com/

Both Saturdays and Sundays on demo weekends and all people who participate in the skibike demos will be entered for a drawing for a free skibike!!! Great stuff for the upcoming season!!
